Website Product Requirements Document Outline

(Note: This is meant to give an idea of the type of information provided by this document; each Product Requirement Document will be customized entirely for your project.)

1. Overview

a. Goals and Overall Content Strategy/Philosophy
Rationale for website redesign or introduction of new product features

b. Summary of Background Research and Analysis
Supporting documents relating to research and other analyses that laid foundation for current strategy

c. Audience - Description of target audience and segments for new website areas

d. Unique Differentiators and Overall Positioning
High level statement of competitive differentiation that website redesign or new product features will offer to end users and to your company.

e. Requirements Summary- Key Areas and Features
Summary statement of the key content areas, functionality and features or applications that the website redesign or new pages will offer.

2. Main Page and First Level Features

a. VERTICAL LEFT-HAND NAVIGATION (Fixed)
Vertical Fixed Placement Element includes recommended name, secondary pages associated with area and benefit statement

• Vertical Navigation 2
• Etc.

b. HORIZONTAL TOP NAVIGATION (Fixed)
Horizontal Navigational Element includes recommended name, description, secondary pages associated with area and benefit statement
• Horizontal Navigational Element 1

• Etc.

c. DYNAMIC AND ROTATING CONTENT AREAS
Content Area includes recommended name, description, secondary pages associated with area and benefit statement
• Dynamic Content Area 1
• Dynamic Content Area 2
• Etc.

d. FIXED and ROTATING MODULES/ “WIDGETS”
Description of recommended new tool/module with recommended name, secondary pages associated with new tool and benefit statement

e. CUSTOMIZATION AND PERSONALIZATION ELEMENTS
Description of tools and tasks recommended for client and non-client customization of website with new name (if required) and benefit statement.

f. RICH MEDIA ELEMENTS
Description of suggested rich media elements for website redesign with recommended name and benefit statement.

3. Second Level Screen Features

Detailed recommendations are provided for each major navigational and content area included on the main page of site design (e.g., Fund Selection)

a. FEATURE 1 WITH NAME
Summary: Description of Area with Benefit Statement
Sections: Listing of major sections & features/tools included within the second level content area, defining fixed and dynamic elements. Includes:
• Description
• Purpose
• Key User Segment (for example, clients, 1st time visitor, etc.)
Will include detailed descriptions for each section (Section A, Section, Section B, etc.)

b. FEATURE 2 WITH NAME
Summary: Description of Area with Benefit Statement
Sections: Listing of major sections & features/tools included within the second level content area, defining fixed and dynamic elements. Includes:
• Description
• Purpose
• Key User Segment (for example, clients, 1st time visitor, etc.)
Will include detailed descriptions for each section (Section A, Section, Section B, etc.)

c. FEATURE 3 WITH NAME
Summary: Description of Area with Benefit Statement
Section: Listing of major sections & features/tools included within the second level content area, defining fixed and dynamic elements. Includes:

Will include detailed descriptions for each section (Section A, Section, Section B, etc.)

The list of features is exhaustive and will guide your team in developing the web prototype.
